The Central Port is designated for coastal shipping and cruiseships. It has about 3,800 metres of quay stretching between the Themistokleous and Krakari breakwaters. The Central (passenger) Port is the largest passenger port in Europe and one of the largest in the world, handling 20 million passengers a year. The Queen Elizabeth II is the largest vessel handled in the port to date. The Central Port is also the main passenger hub for services linking the mainland with the Aegean islands and Crete.
